Calling all Webcomics!

Are you a professional webcomic? Do you want free admission and a free sales table at Intervention?

Intervention is a con created by professional webcomics, so providing a showcase of how great our scene is means a lot to us.

Intervention is the con where webcomics are not only represented positively, but we will work with you to promote your work and send traffic to your site. You won't just be a bit of text buried on the back of the site behind all of the other guests - you will be showcased on our comics page with clickable links and a sample of your work. Opportunities will be available for you to be interviewed on the front page, to have your work featured, and your voice heard. You will be an active part of the promotion of Intervention.

We believe in directing traffic and sales to the people who bring such great content to Intervention.

Please contact us for details and the possibility of receiving space on the sales floor.

NOTE: Professional comic creators are the primary people who will receive space on the sales floor. By "professional" we mean that you should be treating your comic as more than a hobby. New comic creators will be accepted, but we are looking for people who have dedication, really love what they do, and update their work consistently.

EDIT: I have been getting contacted by a lot of people who are afraid to apply because they don't think they are professional enough or good enough. This is crazy. You should apply.

We are not in the business of picking people apart. If you have the desire to do well, we want to talk to you. People who will not get free tables are people who have just done 3 comics and then quit. If you have the stamina to keep going and you want to believe in yourself, we want to believe in you. We are not in the business of dictating who is good and who is bad. We have limited space so we will even have to reject the most talented artists once the space runs out.

A rejection does not mean that we don't like you and it certainly doesn't mean you should give up.

We do have limited space, so if you don't get into the free section the worst case scenario is that a table is $50. That's pretty awesome actually.

For those who are not confident about your work, you can come and see one of us at the con and we will help you get the skills you need to be professional by next year. We will have panel programming just for this purpose, and we have no problem taking a few minutes to help you out personally. That's the Intervention way. This is how we see the scene. What makes us different is that our cornerstone is the idea of:

1. Promoting the scene to fans so that they know where to find and support webcomics.
2. Helping people increase their skill level so you can join us.

We believe in this scene and we also believe that TOO MANY comics give up too early. Don't be that guy. Keep going, don't fear rejection, and you will get to where you need to go. We started this con because we believe in you guys, so get out there and fight!

This is my first year doing the comic full-time and I look forward to this continuing to be a year of firsts. I'm counting the previous six years as a "warm-up". I look forward to being at Intervention (on either side of the table). It sounds like a blast and it's hard not to feel super-motivated by all of the pro-web feelings coming from this.

We're glad that what we started is being seen as what we hoped--which is a platform for people to get excited and get involved and get greater support for what we all do.

I keep thinking of the quote, "a rising tide lifts all the boats". Events like Intervention that help raise awareness of webcomics will do much more than any one of us (web creatives) can do alone. I'm all for anything that works towards the goal of helping creators be more successful on the web. The more new people that read 'your' webcomic and 'his' and 'hers' means more people reading comics online and that means more potential readers to eventually find my comic.
I've linked you guys with one of your graphics in the Conventions area of my comic's site, and I'll be talking more about it as more details are released and obviously more about it as we get closer to the event.

We appreciate all of it so very much! You are right. Comics are like apples and oranges. Our fans can be as different as Star Wars and Sex and the City fans, but we share the same method of publication. Once fans in general understand this world and that it is a place to seek us out, we will all benefit. :D Before recently we never had a place to go...years ago we would joke about there being a con for webcomics when we had criticism for being at anime cons since we aren't anime. Little did I know I'd be making a con! It just seems like a natural progression since this scene has been on the down low at various cons for years now. D:
