- Targeted Fans: Our guests, topics, and panels are targeted to webcomic fans and Webcomic Artists. Webcomic fans are tech-savvy people that have no problem spending money buying from a webcomic and won't look down on you because you don't have the magical stamp of approval from a big publisher. We love and respect our print comic friends, but there are many conventions for them already. Intervention is for independent creators who use the internet to market their work and make their money.
- You are Talented: We are going to actually promote your work and generate buzz about you before you get into the con--on the Intervention blog and site--and encourage people to click your link and read your work. You are no longer an anonymous person behind a table. You are a real brand with a face. This way the fans will know who to buy from when they get to the con.Read the details here.
- You are Experts Worth Seeing, and New Creators are Also Worth Seeing: We believe in both promoting our guests as experts, helping and promoting new webcomics, and also helping young people enter the field. Our overall goal is to get this going so that we can eventually create scholarships and hold low-cost workshops to expose people to this field that may otherwise not be able to afford it. We are all about community. This is a tough field. It's easy to feel alone and isolated. One comic's success means it's easier for the rest of us to succeed. Too many great comics give up too early because they don't have support. We believe that helping each other succeed helps the scene get better.
- Care to Do an Interview? Yes. YOU: The blog at http://www.InterventionCon.com will be live. As time progresses we will be featuring the people supporting our con on the front page. We want to hear from experienced people, but we also want to hear from someone just starting out so that we can paint an accurate picture of our scene and it's unique challenges. No other convention offers this level of interaction. We have very popular comics here, but you don't have to be the most popular person to get our attention. Why? Our con chairs are comic creators too and remember what it was like in their early careers. This is how we create good Karma. This is the cornerstone of what this convention was founded on.
- Need Help With Your Website? We will have pro web-designers available at-con to coach you through your website problems, either in panels or dedicated training/setup sessions. You will not leave this con with a bad website after talking with the talent we have coming to the con.
- We are a 24 Hour Con and We Will Have Many Parties: Our con will have events happening all day and night. We will have a full scale NYC style Industrial Dance (with a real NYC DJ), a Video Room, a LARP, and a full Video and Board Gaming room. We have more events planned but those will be announced over time. Now is your chance to meet your favorite creator and have fun in a low-pressure setting. Nervous? Come get Oni or Harknell and they will introduce you to a few people to get you started.
- Support is CRITICAL in our first year: Onezumi and Harknell have invested a lot (money and time) into this idea. If you believe that this scene should be supported in this way, supporting Intervention now is critical to ensure that they can afford to keep doing this every year. They are not rich, but they believe this is the Right Thing to Do. They are not making any personal money off of this convention, it's a non-profit. All money will be thrown back into Intervention.
We hope that answers some of your questions...and good luck in all of your work!
