What Intervention is about!

Follow me and/or @InterventionCon on Twitter.

Lots of great things happening in Intervention-land!

All Up Together interviewed me about it here.

“When I began exhibiting at cons myself as an adult I saw kids who were just like me when I was at that fragile age. They were now coming to me. That’s when I realized that art is far more important and resonant than many give it credit for. I guess my own past drives me to help others. I see myself in other people.”

Fan to Pro interviewed me here.

“Many Americans work hard at jobs that make them miserable and unfulfilled. They rarely see their families and then get laid off with maybe just a handshake. I’m seeing more and more people who would rather be with their family doing something they love than to continue chasing after things in a system that doesn’t care about any one person anymore. Gone are the days where most people stay at one company for 20+ years. It’s sad but it seems to be the common experience. The internet allows you to reach the people who would like what you do no matter what it is or where they are.”

I’m super-excited about this year! Keep all of your suggestions for guests, topics, events, and companies you’d like to see at the con coming! Remember – we work hard to make this awesome for you! :D

More Guests! Pete Abrams / Sluggy Freelance and Raul Aguirre Jr. / Disney Animator, Man Vs. Art Podcast

Hiya! I have 2 guests to officially announce to you!

Pete Abrams / Sluggy Freelance:

I think most of you guys know that Pete was already confirmed, but just in case you missed it, Pete Abrams of Sluggy Freelance will be joining us again this year!

Pete has been doing his daily online comic strip since August 25, 1997. Starting the comic strip as a creative outlet, his world with the switchblade-wielding rabbit quickly expanded into uncharted territory and grew into over a decade of alien vampire missile-launching fun. Since its Satan-spamming beginnings, Sluggy Freelance has attracted a devoted global following and is one of the most popular and well-known comics on the web.

Pete has gained recognition not only online, but through such high profile appearances as the original comics included in NY Times bestselling author John Ringo’s Hell’s Faire, and as part of the New York’s Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art webcomics exhibition in Fall, 2007, as well as appearances on NPR’s Weekend Edition with Liane Hansen. Pete is reputed to be the first person to ever make a living by drawing a webcomic.

Raul Aguirre Jr. / Disney Animator, Man Vs. Art Podcast

New for 2013 is Raul Aguirre Jr. Raul is a Disney Animator and podcaster with a passion for teaching art and animation. If you are interested in art and you haven’t checked out Man vs. Art podcast yet, you’d better do it now!

Raul Aguirre Jr. draws, animates, and writes. He studied Fine Arts at The Laguna College of Art and Design and also studied animation at Dave Master’s Rowland Animation. In 1994 he was recruited by Walt Disney Feature Animation where he spent the next 8 years as an animation artist. He had the honor of being Glen Keane’s right hand and protégé on Disney’s “Treasure Planet” Long John Silver. After Disney he found work designing characters and drawing storyboards all over “Toon Town”. It was at Nickelodeon that he made his directorial debut on his first animated short ‘Hero Heights.”

Recently Raul has worked on “Family Guy” and continues doing development and animation work on his own properties. Currently Raul teaches Animation at the Gnomon School of Visual Effects and works in house at Moonscoop Productions as Storyboard Supervisor for an upcoming animated TV show.

He is also the creator and host of the Man vs. Art Podcast, a show specifically geared towards informing, inspiring, and entertaining his fellow artists while they toil away on their art!
