Five Questions With: Jon St. John

I16W02f2_JStJohn

Voice actor Jon St. John has an impressive CV, with credits ranging from the Sonic the Hedgehog series to Star Trek Online. But most video fan games will recognize him as the voice of the wisecracking, movie-quoting Duke Nukem.

Jon will be with us at Intervention this September, so we took a minute to ask him our five questions — about his career, the con, and what he’s most looking forward to!

InterventionCon: At Intervention, we take time to spotlight both fandom favourites and lesser-known creators. Is there a lesser-known creator you think our attendees should know about?
Jon St. John: I work with many independent game developers, so too many to mention in that arena…as far as artists, Danny Kang is a fantastic talent and I would like to see him get recognition.

IC: Is there anything about your career now that you wish you’d known when you were just starting out?
JSJ: Yeah – everything! But the VO business has changed so much over the years and has become so much easier thanks to technology. I wish I had taken my career more seriously in the beginning…I thought voice acting was a “side thing” to do while I was a radio personality and producer. Turns out – it’s the much better career choice.

IC: If an attendee were to walk up to you at the event, what would you be most excited to chat with them about?
JSJ: Games that they like and the types of characters that they love most in games. I want to land those roles…the ones players find most entertaining.

IC: Which of our other guests are you looking forward to seeing at Intervention?
JSJ: Todd Haberkorn and I are friends…I will enjoy hanging with Todd…but René Auberjonois is the fellow I most interested in meeting. I’ve been a fan of his work for many years.

IC: Is there anything else you’re looking forward to at the con?
JSJ: Yeah – party time!! I like to party with fans and friends, so join me for a shot of tequila, won’t you?
